Cataract

Modern therapy is surgery. A vast number of aging populations is concerned, and thus submitted to this treatment.

The Eye Lens is constituted of extremely long cells, measuring 12 mm. This fact means a huge amount of encompassing membranes. Main component of those ones is lipids.

Recent research shows that fats absorbed can be crucial for appearance of this disease.

Nutrition in modern society, as mentioned previously, is deficient in essential fatty acids (Cf. Chapter EFA).

Essential fatty acids keep cells away from sloughing. Here antioxidants can be also decisive.

Publications relate even regrowth of the Eye Lens. Does this mean also possible clearing of opacities with such treatment?

Retinal Detachment

This poorly understood diagnosis leaves frequently specialists disarmed. Its surgery by Ophthalmologists is exceedingly delicate.

Such one not seldom results in disability.

Subretinal tissue is composed of membranes. Main constituent are lipids. As stated previously, nutrition in modern society is deficient in essential fatty acids.

Hence, etiology is frequently a minor trauma, but on the ground of tissue fragility due to EFA- Deficit in Alimentation. (Cf. Chapter EFA.)

Macular Degeneration

Prevalence of AMD increases with age from 2% among people aged 40 to almost 50% among people aged ≥85.

Genetic factors and smoking may play a role. The condition is diagnosed through a complete eye exam. Severity is divided into early, intermediate, and late types. The late type is additionally divided into “dry” and “wet” forms, with the dry form making up 90% of cases.

Early-stage and intermediate-stage AMD is managed by modifying known risk factors such as smoking cessation, management of hypertension and atherosclerosis and making dietary modifications.

No effective treatments exist for dry AMD. The CNV present in wet AMD is managed with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitors.

Dietary supplements may be suggested for people with AMD, with the goal of reducing damage to the cells in the retina with antioxidants. The formulations commonly suggested are known as AREDS. The specific vitamins and minerals in AREDS-1 are vitamin C (500 mg), zinc (80 mg), vitamin E (400 IU), copper (2 mg) and beta-carotene (15 mg). In the AREDS-2 formulation, lutein (10 mg) and zeaxanthin (2 mg) replaced beta-carotene due to the risk of lung cancer in smokers taking beta-carotene. (From Wikipedia).

Hence, etiology is probably multifactorial!

A high content of Lectins and Gluten in our nutrition could play the central role.

If present in meals they induce increased permeability of bowel mucosa, and thus permit to undigested antigens and toxins (germs) access to blood stream.

Result is increased permeability of membranes in whole body and generalized edema of tissues.

There is extensive information on Internet about how to treat food to reduce lectin absorption to a minimum.

Apart from that, a gluten- free diet is exceedingly helpful for improving health.

Another factor could be the high animal, and especially from mammals, protein, and fat content in our alimentation.

This one induces on immune basis an inflammation in our organism.

Replacing amino acids sources with vegetarian ones, or flesh from Invertebrates, could improve the odds.

Vegetal oils unfold on the contrary an anti- inflammatory action. Hence, you can increase consumption of those ones.

Switch between different brands and origins to substantiate the body with all Essential Fatty Acids.

Glaucoma

This disease happens because of increased pressure in the eye. The pressure causes damage to the optic nerve. This can cause loss of vision and may also be painful.

Glaucoma is the second most common cause of blindness in the world.

There is often a hereditary tendency to glaucoma.

There are several recognized types of secondary glaucoma. (From Wikipedia).

All cells are limited by a membrane. It is composed to more than 90% of lipids. Hence, Essential Fatty Acids are crucial for reconstruction and stability of cell limits.

Fragility of those induces sloughing, especially if concomitant with slow metabolism. Products of such a process fills the anterior eye chamber with sticky material and can cause the “Open Angle Glaucoma”.

The disease is also multifactorial and inflammation from nutritional origin can play a role (Rf. Chapter on Macular Degeneration).

For Narrow Angle Glaucoma we can again question increased permeability of choroid from various causes. Lectins and Gluten in our Nutrition can play here also the Central Role.

Conjunctivitis

This common disorder is frequent in early childhood and seldom in adults. Most often it is due to Staphylococcus aureus.

This is a ubiquitous germ of skin, which obtains resistant features with the use of antimicrobials like soaps.

Yellow, dry secretions along the ciliary rim of eyelids are diagnostic for a Staphylococcus aureus infection.

After birth babies acquire immunity little by little and with time defend themselves well against infections.

With the large development of avionics and ease of transportation individuals encounter from time to time a new strain, to which they are not yet immune.

The germ is also harbored in paranasal sinuses, where it attains intra-cellular growth. The nasolacrimal duct provides a direct route to eye conjunctivae.

Clavulanic acid in association with Amoxicillin is efficient as therapy. Antibiotics are produced by Mycelia, which contain bacteria away permitting growth of the producer.

“Kill them all!” is a strategy derived from the military, where wars were at the source of so many miseries and suffering of Humanity.

Such a principle is foreign to Mother Nature, where all diversity exists and proliferates, and the different species develop only mechanisms which allow growth to be able to contain the opposite and to coexist.

Also, the human body is no exception, and the immune system keeps specimens of all previous encounters, to recognize them later.

Hence, the aim of medical treatment should be to heal the disease and not to eradicate the germ.

Close observing of signs and symptoms allows efficiency in this project. Adapting the dose to the lowest necessary is in my opinion a good philosophy. This way immunity can emerge and take over the defense.

As Staphylococcus aureus thickens secretion, adjoining a fluidifying agent is excessively useful. Lemon juice is the strongest actually and drinking one lemon every day is good advice.

Also, adequate hydration is essential, at least 3 liters per day.

In absence of sinusitis antibiotic eyedrops are an efficient therapy.

Again, do not use it in excess to permit the body constituting its own defense.
