Adequate hydration is essential for therapy of a huge number if disorders.

Despite the extensive medicalization of modern society it is observed by few people.

The kidney is one of the four organs with the highest Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR).

The brain, liver and heart are the other three.

Children have a high BMR, and probably because of this fact all diseases are of lower prevalence early in life.

Hence, drinking enough is crucial for remaining in good health.

Taking 3 liters of liquid per day not only prevents urinary calculi, but also dissolves them.

High diuresis clears urinary tract infections.

Constipation can also be avoided this way.

Little evidence exists about bile stones, which depend mostly on other mechanisms, but a central role in this topic is probable.

Adequate digestion is another one.

Muscles and skeleton are no exception.

With one word, the whole organism depends on water!

This said, many people do not find a way to drink 2-3 liters every day.

Intestines move with peristalsis, which is directed by the neuro-vegetative system.

Taking warm liquids, as for instance a soup helps digestion, but activates the para-sympathetic pathway, which not only moves forward the food bolus, but also promotes spasms, especially of stomach in illness.

When vomiting occurs, it leaves a deep imprint in memory about associated circumstances.

Next time similar ones happen, the individual is reluctant to proceed!  

Thus, if you want, or need to increase your liquid intake, you must pay precise attention at some rules.

Jumping breakfast not only permits limiting food intake, but also can provide a window for rehydration.

Coffee unfolds positive actions on the body, like arousal, burning fat and enhancing BMR. Thus, in my opinion, it should not be omitted from daily routine but drinking it otherwise than black slows down exceedingly gastric emptying.

Liquids have on average a half-life in the stomach of ¼ of an hour, but this ratio depends extensively on content.

Especially in Afrika children are frequently concerned.

Involved germs are many, some species of E. coli participate too, and even seafood is not exempt of Cholera-like bacterias.

Intravenous administration of isotonic serum is accepted in hospitals and dispensaries, but in the wilderness such therapy is difficult to apply.

Hence, it is useful to know how to prepare a liquid to administer by mouth:

– 9 g of salt (NaCl) and 20 g of sugar (best is glucose, but sucrose would also do it) in a liter of water, to be given spoon by spoon every few minutes.

Such treatment needs a lot of patience, but is life-saving.

Adequate diuresis (20-30 ml/hour) means the measure is sufficient.
