Lumps under the Skin

As a specialist in Ultrasound, I have seen many of those.

They represent frequently a puzzle to the general practitioner, though diagnosis is frequently obvious.

Primary tumors originating from the Musculo-Skeletal System are a rarity, and thus we come to the subject of my writing.

Next rarest etiology is accessory muscle, which can be suspected because of its consistency on palpation.

Lipomas are softer and less elastic.

They are also much more frequent, and rest on faulty nutrition of our population.

Obesity, but also use of Trans Fats in some nutriments are the cause.

Most frequent of all are Epidermal Inclusion Cysts, containing sebum.

Those are always associated with a pilous follicle, sometimes difficult to identify.

They are intra-dermal, in fact, and are due to daily use of soaps.

Last ones select the Staphylococcus aureus on the skin, which is the only germ able to resist those potent solvents.

This bacterium unfolds an incredible potential to inspissate, thicken secretions of all glands, which makes it impossible to eradicate.

First report about use of a soap-like substance has been found on clay tablets and concerns its use in ancient Babylon 2800 BCE.

Though, this substance had in no way the antibiotic properties of nowadays soaps.

For the rest of History and Antiquity people were using at most oils (Olive oil) for washing, but most of the time just water.

They were not suffering complications of the Mult-resistant Staphylococcus aureus(MRSA).
